We’ve finished a meetings within "I am a Żywiec City ambassador" of "Smart Żywiec - (r)evolution” project. The fifth - and unfortunately last one  - guest in this year's cycle was an outstanding Polish athlete from Żywiec, Mr Piotr Haczek.
Fans of sport, especially athletics, don’t need no introduction of Mr Piotr Haczek. He is one of the most talented and titled runners of 21sth century. He reached twice world champion title 4x400m relay team. Twice represented Poland at the Olympic Games. Although he did not win any medals in Atlanta or Sydney, he remembers his participation at the Olympics with tenderness.
- In retrospective, I think,  that I didn’t waste my athletic career. I came from a small town, where we didn't have a professional athletics tracks, but thanks to persistence and hard training I managed to achieve better and better results, and in result I was appointed to subsequent national teams, which gave me an opportunity to work with the best coaches on the best athletics tracks and halls.
It is worth to mention, that the best Polish athletes, such as Tomek Majewski and Piotr Małachowski, also come from small towns and have acheved dizzying careers. Living in a smaller town, like Żywiec, gives you a lot of opportunities to get a good start," said the outstanding Polish athlete. Today, Piotr Haczek has retired from sport, but he still has a lot in common with athletics. He was a sports director at the Polish Athletics Association, worked with athletics associations in Scotland and Denmark, and in recent years has been supporting the Saudi Arabian national team with his knowledge and experience. He lives in Copenhagen on a daily basis, where his son 10-year-old son, Piotr jr.  is playing hockey.
Piotr Haczek is the fifth of Żywiec City ambassadors.
Previous ambassadors were Mrs Dorota Firlej- curator of the Żywiec City Museum, Mr Grzegorz Szczepaniak, - Beskid Tourguide, Mr Paweł Ignatowicz-  guitar player living in New York  and Mr Michał Kusiak - comet explorer.
The event 'I am an ambassador of Żywiec City' was organized on behalf of the Żywiec City by the association Żywiec City of Senses, the association's president Mrs Kornelia Gąsiorek, gave the statuette - a sculpture of a highlander - to Mr Piotr Haczek.
The meeting took place in the Żywiec Municipality Library and attracted several participants, including students from two of Żywiec Sports Championship Schools.
